The scanner is OK. I was using it quite a bit this afternoon. Helga and Frank will receive an e-mail I scanned and saved as a GIF. I finally got the picture of the bolo tie I was trying for last week. It was good. I now have new scanning software in addition to the utilities I had with the Mustek. I can do all sorts of cute things now. Thanks for the interest.

Juno is free without an internet carrier. Hotmail.com is free, but you have to have the internet. Hotmail will send and receive attachments. Juno wont, but if one is received HTML it will print a garbled, but readable, copy of the text. No picture.

Hi Kathy! You don´t need to worry that you aren´t asked by PM to switch CD when you select an image (most of us are quite happy with having just the program CD inserted and don´t have to change). It really is so, that you will be prompted to change CD when needed. If you haven´t had to do that yet is because there are a lot of images already on the program CD. I guess that sofar you have happened to select only those. Just try again with other images and you´ll see the prompt sooner or later! Happy swapping! :-) Peter

To use the extra CD's, try the following: Start the PrintMaster program. Start a brand new project of any type. Click on the Add Picture button. Under Art Collection, click on the down arrow. Select Art CD 1. Double click on a graphic. You should receive a prompt to put the Art CD 1 into the CDROM drive. Wait for the light to stop flashing on the CDROM drive, then click on OK or press the Enter key on the keyboard. The graphic should appear in the workspace. Just follow onscreen prompts when it comes to the usage of the CD's.

Chuck Williamson (dancer1@c-zone.net) if you are getting unwanted dots when printing on an envelope, try the following. after selecting Print, remove the check mark from Fast Bitmap Printing in the print dialog box. To do this, just click on the checkmark and it should go to Smoothing. Try printing the envelope.

Hi Kathy, Welcome and I think you will enjoy your new program. I have the same thing. You will be prompted from the Art Gallery when you choose the pictures that are on the two cd's -- you will be told which one to insert. I have found that I have to wait a few seconds after the cd is inserted to use the "ok" button on the prompt that comes up. This gives it time to be activated. Each time it is necessary to change the cd's, PM will prompt. Eleanor

Hi Eleanor, hi Peter! It was funny to see your postings at the same time. No my problems are not really solved but I think the guilty part is detected after I have changed almost everything. It must be CPU or motherboard so I've decided to replace these things. Still asking around for prices yet. I had very strange crashes, frozen screens and other mysterious things. Sometimes I was sure it had to be a virus but it wasn't. After a while I got used to expect the unexpeted so I'm working on my computer again. I'm saving my files very often. I'm unhappy if the system knocks me out - and I'm very distrustful if it don't. My computer was very peaceful this weekend. ----- A very nice graphics browser is ACDsee (not only for friends of rock music ;-)) It's shareware and reading directories without building large thumbs-files like thumbs plus (my favorite, anyway). It shows animated gifs also. I've got it from a CD and have no URL but if anyone is interested, just send me an e-mail. Viele Grüße und ein schönes Wochenende! Ute

Hi all! I read some postings earlier discussing the quality of different free e-mail services. In case anyone is interested, I read a test recently of such services. No. 1 came out as being Lycos (www.lycosemail.com), for having a good and to-the-point design, easy to use, no adverti#$%!t that bothered much and few questions during registration. No.2 was Geocities (geocities.iname.com), No.3 Starmail (www.starmail.com), No. 4 Alta Vista (www.altavista.digital.com), all these three with "the same rating". Hotmail didn´t come until as No. 7 with comments as having a "messy" design, "very disturbing" adverti#$%!ts and no support for international characters in the address book. :-) Peter

Hi Kitty! I really would advise against copying programs from one computer to another. Doing what Daisy suggests, to move a program insise the same computer with the help from a Zip drive utility, a program like Clean Sweep or something else is quite OK. But Windows has a tendency to want to make every installment unique and spreading little files and drive routines and no-one never knows what all around the computer. So, I think the best thing to do in order to have the programs work OK, is to make a new installment of every program on the next computer. And that´s not only bad or trouble-some, because you also loose a lot of garbage which is being built up in every PC by the years and is irritatingly difficult to get rid of. Doing like this is your chance! Good luck. :-) Peter

My, oh my. Think I´m doing 100+ times as many print-outs w/ HP4P laser printer and PageMaker, but that´s because I have to in my business. Anyway, thanks for reminding me. I needed that. But soon I have 3 weeks summer holidays. Maybe more time with PM4, who knows? Incidentally, forgot to mention that Rocky Mountain just announced six new Fiskars paper edgers: Alligator, Spindle, Bat Wings, Cotton Candy, Imperial and Arabian. How does an Arabian paper edger look like??? Must go and see, I guess. Pat, I recieved the new image. it still says that it is a bmp file, but it down loaded quicker. Did you find out how to shrink it? (Did you notice that you can choose the format in one of the drop down boxes?) Unfortunately, it seems that it won't work to send word documents like this in the graphic formats. This smaller image is unreadable. All the letters have been translated into a series if random rectangles but they are not in the shape of letters. If you wanted to send this to someone I wonder if it would work to send the background and any graphics in the jpeg format, and the words in the body of the email and give the recipient instructions for putting them together in Paint. Anyway I THINK it might be the shrinking that made the words unreadable, or the fact that jpeg format stores the image with a quarter of the detail that bmp stores it in.

Hope July will be better. That´s when we´re going to Helsinki (while you´re in Mexico, lucky you). If I can find any Fiskars in it´s home-country, I don´t know, but I´ll give it a try. Crazy, I know, but that's what is done here. Kitty, glad you liked Max, he is a Shih-Tzu, very loveable and intelligent, but just loves to bark at other animals. Eleanor

Good morning Merrie. It doesn't look like you have had your question answered, so let's give it a try. You scanned in some pictures and saved them but now can't find them. When you click on the "Save As" heading under FILE, your picture is going to be saved in the program you are currently using. Hopefully, you assigned the file a recognizable name when you saved it. You did not say which Printmaster Program you have. I have Platinum and Gold Deluxe. If you are using Platinum, simply click on the button that says, "Your Projects" on the opening screen. When using the Gold Deluxe program, I had to OPEN the file "Your Projects" and it took longer to access. Try going into your Printmaster Program, click on FILE, OPEN, and then scan for the filel name. Go to that file name and double click. This will retrieve the picture you saved. The Acquire choice is not the area for retrieving but rather for scanning in something new. Let us know if this helps. Cheers. Jill

Violet, the metalic colors do not blend as well as the plain ink but most times you wouldn't want to blend the metalics. Ute, I have the 1000 and just ordered the 1300 ( it does great photo work, even has special ink) The cost is more than an ink jet (that's why I use the HP for common stuff and the Alps for special. But the best price for the ink is at Buy Comp Online Shopping Page. And another hint, when you are inserting a new tape, first roll back the tape until you reach the metal strips. I found that the tape is rolled to far forward and a lot of tape is wasted. Good luck. Dolores

I got the Platinum version last week..love it..hate changing sooo many disks........anyhow, it is doing the same thing !! My disk driver is just not reading the disks...sometimes it does, sometimes it sits there for a few minutes first, sometimes it starts reading and then stops and other times it does nothing at all !!!!! I am getting very frustrated !!!!!!! We had the puter in to get it checked and they could find nothinng wrong with the drive....anyone else had problems with your disks not being read properly ?? I have to make up a bunch of certificates for our 4-H club by nest weekend, so really want to figure this out fast.....before I throw something through the screen..like my computer !!!!!

Eleanor, An inkjet printer at best will print leaving a 1/4 inch border on the sides and 1/2 inch on the bottom and almost to the edge on top. To see exactly what your printer is capable of check your user manual.

Edie, Yes there is a way that you can by-pass the test page. You will notice that on your printer dialog box is an option to only print the inside or the outside. Choose this option and you will save paper. The Orientation is easy to figure out. The printed side is always up and that only gives you two choices one is to put it back in the way it came out and the other is to turn it around. I am confident that you can figure which one.

hi Edie, welcome to the 'board' - i am not sure what your problem is. I THINK you might mean be printing a 1/2 fold card that wants to print out the Arrow to show you how to re-insert it? If so, just choose Print Outside, (turn your paper) then Print Inside - rather than Print Both sides (if I remember correctly - a rare occurance) <g>

Edie it sounds as though you are trying to print a two sided card. The instruction that it gives you is to help you orient your paper properly so that the inside of your card will not be upside down in relation to the outside. (If this is the test then it is so that you can choose the correct instruction for the printer to give you every time that you print a double sided card, so go ahead and follow it) If you have already done this test then insert two sheets to print one card and it will print one side of the card and one instruction sheet. Then you follow the instruction and insert the "stack" of two into the printer as instructed and It will print the other side of the two sided card. If you want five copies then Insert 6 sheets, etc.

Linda, no I gave up on hotmail when I found out how to set up a netscape account through my server, the shol acct above. I love Jack Russells too. but I may not want something that is really needy though i could use a reason to go for a walk regularly. I read someone said further down that it is the same foil that is used for craft projects so you could apply it using the glue for foil I'm sure, but they said that the Laser ink is melted onto the page and the foil is melted to that. So the Laser ink acts as a glue. So I guess that we are out of luck.

I LOVE Jack Russells, they are really cool dogs, be forewarned though that they are not very good 'lay around the house' kind of dogs. They are REALLY active. Terrific Agility dogs (one of my favorite hobbies). Am anxiously awaiting the verdict of whether or not you can apply foil to ink jet stuff. My sister sent me a card w/ foil and it looked great. I thought she applied over ink from her inkjet but not sure, she did use a laser printer to set the foil.
