I just bought PM Platinum & love it!!! Imagine 6 cdroms!!! I'm in heaven. However, I'm gonna end up broke with all these upgrades. So for all you die-hard PM fans, here's a solution (that I have used for my last 3 upgrades). I buy the upgrade (at the lowest price I can find it), send in my rebate, and sell my old version to a friend. Eg. for PM Platinum, which usually goes for about $69-$79: At Computer City, it's on sale for $44.99, less my $25 rebate, and selling the old version to a friend for $15, the total deal will cost me $4.99 (+ tax). You do the math, try it, it works!!! Come on PM, keep coming up with those upgrades, I can afford it!!! Good Luck!

Re: envelopes. Depending on what fold you are using, listed are the envelopes you can buy at Staples: For quarter folds: #5 1/2 Baronial envelopes (4 3/8 x 5 3/4) For half folds: Booklet size (sorry I don't have dimensions, as I didn't buy it yet). But they do fit. Hope this helps!!

Why, if I have 13.1 MB of Printmaster on my hard drive, do I have to insert the CDROM each time to run the program? If I want to install a newer version, is it okay to run BOTH programs or should I overwrite 3.0 with the newer version?

Hi Maruice! Yes, I downloaded the patch when it first became available and just today had the problem with the characters popping up and missing text letters. It seems kind of strange to me to "save" a project only to bring it up for revisions later with added characters within the text. Sounds strange to you too? Pat

I believe that at one time someone on this board addressed their problem with funny characters popping up, missing letters, etc., while working on a project in PMW, and I'm not sure anyone addressed this problem. I have experienced this in V3 and now again in PMW Gold V4.0. Of course, this happened while on deadline and it's quite unnerving to say the least. Anyway, while making revisions to an already "saved" document (newsletter), the screen showed my text missing letters and small boxes within the text box (either at the beginning of a sentence or at the end). There's nothing special about the box, no graphics, etc., just plain text. I'm baffelled. Any thoughts?? Thanks. Pat in Florida

Hi Jim, I have seen this problem before. The only solution we came up with is this: Turn off the "double-sided printing" feature and turn on the "front printing" only. Then print the front of the card. Re-insert the printed card as it comes out of the printer (do not turn it over) and print the inside with the command "front printing" checked and the again, the "double-sided printing" feature unchecked. It works perfectly and prints in color each time. Maurice.

1) The attribute "text wraps around" is applied to the object you want the text to wrap around, not the text box. 2) The object you want the text to wrap around must be layered "on top" of (in front of) the text box. 3) To have text flow with a little space around a picture, use the crop tool to extend the picture boundary *outward*. I can't print any double side application in color. Grayscale, however, is no problem. When I select PRINT for a two sided card I get an error message on my monitor that tells me I need to change the cartridge to black because the project I am printing is b&w OR I have the grayscale mode checked on my set-up screen. Neither of which are are true. Has anyone else run across this problem? I have an HP Pavilion 3100 with a DeskJet 400 printer. The printer driver is version 8.0 for Windows 95. I've contacted HP and after many hours of troubleshooting they've informed me that it is not my set up. It is most definitely inherent in my edition of PrintMaster Gold Deluxe 4.0 JIM

Dear Thomas, Welcome. An easy way to shrink your calendar is to finish it, then go to Print. On the Print page is a button labeled Output Size. Clicking that will take you to a page on which you can choose the pproximate dimensions you want. (It stays proportionate.) Then print out and cut out your calendar. There's no control as to where it prints on the page, no way to get two to a page, etc., except by using Maurice's favorite method which is to scan it in and treat the whole thing as a graphic. Then you have total control. Lynn

It's on the left side of the window. Another window opens and you can size your calendar to just about any size you want. Good luck with your projects, I think you will really like the program. What I do is save the entire PMG chat page to a floppy. The default file is chat.htm. Then the next day I save to another file, chat2.htm. I keep doing this for several days. That way, if a message has scrolled off I can go back to the previous day's chat and re-read it. You could save a week's worth by naming them monday.htm, etc. then just re-write over them the next week. Since the chat is longer now I prefer to read it offline. If I want to print any messages, I highlight the text and paste it into Windows Notepad. Then I print out the page with all the messages I want to save.

Hi Everyone!: I have PM Platinum 4.0 and was trying to import all my personal graphics into the "Your Own" section of the browser. I was able to get about 1,987 imported, but could not add any more. The importer showed the files were being imported, but they would not register in the browser. I then tried to delete some of the ones already imported hoping to make room for more important files, but received a message telling me that there was an error during the deletion. I then checked the browser to see what had happened, if anything, and found that I now have a couple of empty browser pages between graphics. Can anyone please tell me what I can do to rectify this problem, and, if possible how I can get more of my graphics to import into the browser? I have noticed several people asking how to print specific messages from the Live board and not have to print out 20 some pages. I, too, have this problem. The only way I have found to overcome this is to open my Microsoft Word program, minimize it and then go into AOL, bring up Printmaster Live and highlight the desired text. Under Edit, choose Copy and then bring Word back up, choose Paste and I am then able to print from there. Highlighting the desired text and printing directly from the Live area doesn't work for me. There is no way to set Print Area in AOL, at least as far as I have been able to determine.

Bruce (PoetB@aol.com) Subject: inserting clip art, etc. Bruce - When I come to PrintMaster Live, I first open WordPad and minimize it on my Start bar. Then I enter Printmaster Live and read the messages from the bottom up, since answers are always above the questions. When I find a tip that I want to save, I highlight the text, right click, and choose "Copy." I then click on WordPad on the Start bar, right click and paste the text into the document screen. I enter three blank lines, minimize WordPad and return to PM Live. (In order to do this, you have to set your Start bar up to always be on top and then hide itself. Go to Start-Settings-Taskbar. Check the boxes for auto hide and always on top. Now when you need to maximize WordPad, you can move your cursor toward the Start bar, it will appear and you do your copy-paste, and when you minimize WordPad again, the Start bar will disappear off your screen.) Anyway, at the end of the session you can save the WordPad document as a text file and have it available to read or print at any time. I put a folder called "Tips" in my Printmaster directory and save my tips into this file. If I need to read the documents, I simply open WordPad and read them. Also, you can add a third-party graphic to PMW3.0 by clicking on "File" when you are in the album and then choosing "Open from disk." You navigate to the graphic you want and select it. It will then be imported into your document.

Dear Karenm, Sorry. I tried just to add the additional graphics from Platinum when I upgraded, but you're right, it doesn't know. You have to install it. I just moved my saved projects to another directory while I did the installation. As I needed them I opened them from disk and saved them in PMW again, but I find I have more problems when my USER file is full, so I like to keep a lot of my projects stored in another directory anyway. To install the National Geographics with Windows 3.1, you'll need to add another file that someone on this board can give you, but that's the only other complication. If you don't mind changing the CD's (I think it's worth it for the tremendous variety) you'll love it! Lynn

I produce a page with text and graphics and it looks great. I save it, and then when I call it up a day later the text is scrambled, some of the letters don't show at all, and there are strange characters within the text. The graphics are still OK. I'm using Gourmand Font. Some of the text was originally done in MS Word in another font, then cut and pasted into PM and changed to Gourmand font. Could this be causing it? Any suggestions?

Hope that helps you. I am wondering how many others find it as annoying as I do that to use the Delux graphics and then go back to use a Printmaster graphic, you must keep changing CD's. I love version 4.0...but that feature is very annoying...i would like a choice during installation that will allow more of the program to be installed on my disk to avoid this problem.

Well I have been happily working with my Printmaster Gold Deluxe 4.0 and reading the board daily. I want Platinum version. Now I have to decide how to get it. I can call and order the upgrade by mail I understand for 19.95 US. Or I could go out and purchase whole new Platinum version. This may end up costing be close the the same when you take into account the 25.00 US rebate and the exchange on Canadian money right now being 45 cents on the dollar. I have a couple questions. How long is the rebate valid? If I purchase the whole program will I have to reinstall or can I just use the extra graphics,(I don't want to uninstall because of my saved projects) but then how will my computer know I have Platinum. I'm just a litlle confused about this and want to check out all angles first. I love my 4.0 but am really excited about the extra graphics. This pub club is great for learning about the program. I come to it daily and save messages for future reference.. Thanks for your help with this .

Gwen, I don't know how these instructions will differ from what you've already read, but I use Text Wrap frequently. This is what I do: 1)Create a text box. 2)Type my text into it. 3)Click on Add a picture. Find and select my graphic. It will land in the middle of the page. Move it to approximately where I want it. (Because I selected the picture after the text, it's on top. If, for some reason I do it in the other order, I use the placement tools on the right to be sure the graphic is on top of the text.) 4)Next, click on the graphic. 5)Then holding down on the shift key, click on the text box. (Click just barely outside the text box to get the box.) (It is very important to get the box, not the text itself. I can tell the difference because there's a cursor if I have the text itself, and I will lose the selection handles on the graphic.) 6)Then, when text box and graphic are both selected, click on Arrange. 7)Then click on Text Wrap, then Text Wraps Around, then Ok. When I come back to the desktop, the text will have wrapped around my graphic. Voila! A few more things: Text will only wrap around the rectangular space your graphic occupies, not following the outline of the graphic itself. Jay says there's no help for that. It's important that you move the graphic clear to the edge of your text box, or you can accidentally split words. Sometimes I place the graphic on a borderless white rectangle to leave a little more white space between my graphic and text. I text wrap the white rectangle just like any other graphic, then move my chosen graphic on top of it and group them together. Lynn

Jill (& others that are curious), the biggest differenct between Platinum 4 & PMG 3.0 is the amount of graphics. With Platinum, there are over 90,000 graphics & 20,000 photos. It has 4,000 ready made projects included, not to mention the sentiment gallery which includes hundreds of ready to go sayings for your cards. You can do 1/2 fold cards that you were unable to do easily in 3.0. The interface is different, but you can do all of the things that you did with 3.0. I really like the Platinum edition, I love the way you can browse all of the graphics from one CD, something you were unable to do with PrintMaster Gold Deluxe Publishing Suite. Some people are annoyed with swapping discs for various graphics, but you had to in 3.0, if you had the above-mentioned version. That was 3 discs, Platinum is 6 discs of high quality graphics & photos. I was a die hard, waited to upgrade to 4.0, as I was loved the way that 3.0 performed & I didn't want to lose it. To ease the transition, I installed the platinum in a different folder, to keep both versions on my PC. But once trying Platinum, I never opened 3.0 again & recently removed it from my PC. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Renee. I use the Printmaster Gold Delux 3.0 with great ease. It provides just about everything I need.....cards, labels, posters, banners, etc. I even do photo work with printmaster - scanning in the photos, changing the size and stylizing the page. After reading the messages, I hesitate to invest in the Platinum 4.0. It seems that the numerous disks are problematic as well as some difficulties accessing different parts of the program. Perhaps a Platinum user could respond and compare the 3.0 to the Platinum and advise us of the advantages. Printmaster seems to be a superior program to others out there, in any format.

I installed 4.0 over 3.0. For 4.0 to work properly you need to uninstall 3.0 before you install 4.0. Or if you have already installed 4.0 uninstall it and then reinstall it. I spent hours trying to figure out what the problem was, I was ready to return PMG 4.0. Now that it is loaded properly I see marked improvement over 3.0. I am very happy with the program.

Hi Carrie, The graduated screens that the manual is referring to are gradient rectangular graphics that are called "Top to Bottom", "Bottom to top", "Left to Right", and "Right to Left". I deduce this by looking at what they've used behind the train graphic on page 16. Use the aforementioned key words in your graphic search as well as the word "gradient". Other useful gradient graphics are called, "Inside Out", and "Outside In". Lynn, that is a great tip on matching background colors! - Brooks

To all: Holding down the Control key also makes graphics stretch proportionately. (I was surprised to read that Shift does, too.) Hold down the Control key to make rectangles perfect squares and elipses perfect circles. Here's a great tip that's not in the manual. Brooks mentioned it a couple of months ago. To see the inside of a Ready Made Card, view it in Large. Then at the bottom of the screen you have an option of looking at the front, inside or back. If you want to make a background that exactly matches a color in a graphic, make a copy of the graphic, crop it until only the section in the desired color remains, then stretch or duplicate that until it covers your screen. Send it to the back and your project is perfectly color coordinated. Lynn

Salley, it is too bad that you are disappointed in your PrintMaster program. The reason that is runs off the program disk is that it contains too many files/information to install all on your hard disk. The program disk itself has around ten thousand graphics. What I do when I am in a hurry and do not feel like swapping disks, I select "PrintMaster" from the where to search selection, that way only graphics on the first disk will appear and you will not be asked to swap disk. One of the great features of PrintMaster are ALL of the really nice quality graphics. In order to bring you that many top quality graphics, it requires extra disks to store the images on. Most people's hard drives could not store that much information, or it would slow down their systems way too much. If you are that unhappy with the program and how it works, you can consider the multi-disk holder that others use. Good luck! :-)

Although the program itself is good, the sad part is the constant reshuffling of disks to the cd drive. Every time I try to run the program from windows 95, the darn thing asks me to put the orginal cd in my drive first. Then when I run the program, it constantly has me shuffling between the two clip art disks and the main program disk. I just want the whole thing on my hard drive with no disk shuffling. Is there any fix to this or am I stuck.....or should I try to get my money back and or trash the program?

Linda, There are a few really fun programs to work with if you enjoy fooling around with pictures. Microsoft Picture It just came out with version 2 which is a lot of fun you can add your childs face to the front of Mt. Rushmore. you can also distort pictures for some pretty strange effects. Adobe Photo Deluxe is another one that does about the same offering a few different options. some other ones available are I photo express and MGI photo Suite. If you have a scanner it makes it real easy to do a lot of the projects, some of them allow you to make your own sports cards for kids and magize covers etc... Have fun!!!! Doreen
