Danielle.....forgot to add....When your next cartridge runs out of ink and the light flashes, remove immediately. Blot the bottom hole with a paper towel until no ink is coming out and put scotch or adhesive tape over that hole. Put a moist paper towel (not soggy) into a baggy with the cartridge. Keep the bag up cartridge upright until you are ready to refill. It's best to refill the cartridge right away but since you do not have your ink yet, just save the cartridge. The moist towel should maintain it. You will find that typically the yellow color runs out first. I reink as soon as I begin to see horizonal streaks in something I've printed. It's a good idea to run the cleaning cycle before reinking just to make sure it's not a minor clog. The cleaning often takes care of the problem.

Danielle....many of us have ordered from www.refillkits.com/ Make sure you order the appropriate kit for your Epson 600. There are several other companies that appear to also be good. Now that you know Epson 600's are harder to refill, you will be prepared. I find the color cartridges quite easy for some reason. It's odd because there are three holes to refill. For some reason, that one hole on the black cartridge makes things more difficult. It takes patience and determination to problem solve when things don't work out correctly. I've never experienced Willie's splattering problem. It's been just the opposite- nothing prints. There are good advisors on this chat line. With my willingness to explain in detail, Larry has been especially helpful to help problem solve. Glenn did untold research one day as we tried to figure out what exactly was going on. No one else in my nearby world reinks or even cares to. This chat line has been such an education. Let us know how it goes for you.

Van - To open pictures from the "Micro-Logic" version of PM use the open from disk command after selecting "add" from the toolbar on the left. Then look in the directory of the CDROM labled "pictures" not catalog. This will then show various catagories and all the graphics in cgm or other formats such as tif. This should save you alot of the effort you were going through. By the way it's ver. 1 (1994) I still had my user guide, such a packrat (grin) Jon

I think it does a good job on what I used it for so far. It is a parallel port scanner. A friend had gotten a scsi scanner and had a lot of trouble with it, so I decided not to go that route. The Deluxe CD contains more graphics. When you go to the graphics gallery to select a picture set the ART COLLECTION window to PrintMaster and you see thumbnail images for the 1st CD, Set it on Deluxe for thumbnails of the 2nd CD. Set it on ALL for (you guessed it!) seeing all the graphics available on both CD's. When you click on a thumbnail from the 2nd CD the program will ask change to the 2nd CD. All thumbnail images are on the 1st CD so you will have to reinsert it to go back to choose another graphic. Can you understand that or have I rambled too much?

It will automatically open PMP & the file. Then just save it as if you had just created it. Make sure it saved to PMP and then you can go back to Win Explorer and delete it from there. Ed, yes, go not use steam. I have never seen a laminating machine in action but I imagine it to be slow. So I just slowly push the iron around, slowly with medium pressure. It works great. You might want to try something small and not important till you get the hang of it. The laminate comes with a little pouch so the iron doesn't touch your project. It is really easy! You should give it a try! Vicky~

Have you tried going through the Add New Hardware in the Control Panel to reinstall your printer? START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, ADD NEW HARDWARE. When it asks if you want windows to search for new hardware? Click NO then NEXT. It should show a list of things you can install. Click on PRINTER. NEXT. Then it will ask Local or Network. Click LOCAL and NEXT. At the following window click on HAVE DISK. I couldn't go any further since I'm not really installing a printer, but I'm sure you can just follow what it says from there.

Hi Barb, save all your projects to disk, from C:\PMW\USER000\PROJECTS\. Then install PMG again, but when the install program proposes C:\PMW, click on CHANGE and enter a different directory name, like C:\PMW40. If you have more space on another drive, by all means use that one. Then test out this new installation. If it works correctly, simply un-install the first installation. Then save all your projects to the new C:\PMW40\USER000\PROJECTS\. The new program will pick them all up auatomatically and put them in the projects album. Maurice.

The company that makes the clear ones is called Hammermill Papers. The package says, "invent it" on the front. A box of 10 sheets cost $12.99, which is the same cost for only 5 sheets of the Xerox type of decals. I tried them out this morning to make Easter themed decals for the windows, and they worked great. You need to remember that any white areas come out clear when printed. Sunrise

Put your computer in DOS mode by clicking on the C:\ prompt icon or clicking on START and SHUT DOWN IN DOS. Then type DEL C:\PMW\USER000\ART\USERART.* followed by pressing the ENTER key. Then type the word EXIT and press the ENTER key. That brings you back to Windows. Open PMG and you'll see that all your problems have vanished. Maurice.

The program seemed to work better, as far as speed, but it showed color on the print preview and then when it printed, the front page graphics were in color and the middle and back were black outlines. I am perplexed! This is nice of you to be so willing to help.

I'm going to add a warning about scanners from our very bad experience. We purchased a Microtek E6 that came with SCSI programmed to IRQ numbers that were not available on our Gateway 2000 PentiumII. We tried, in vain, to get the company to tell us how to free an IRQ for the scanner. We then tried to contact Microtek tech support and were put on hold so many times that it became an expensive exercise in frustration. They are in CA and we are in PA and no 800#. We then tried to force Windows 95 to put the SCSI on IRQ 5, which was free (the only one of 14 free!) and that resulted in a crash that left us without any of our programs. We spent hours and hours over a few days on the phone with Gateway while they led us through putting all the original back on our then one month old computer. We did lose a lot of the PMG projects we had made and some of the business entries my husband had transferred from the old computer. It was a horrendous way to learn how not to do something. Finally, we managed to contact Microtek and they sent us a parallel port adapter that has caused us no problems. We have since learned that this is not an uncommon problem with the newer computer systems. A good place to find out more about scanning is http://www.cyberramp.net/~fulton/scans.html We are very pleased with the scanner and found Wayne's page a great help. It was recommended from this board by Lisa. One more reason I love this site!

The ink is good the tools are excellant, it comes with complete directions for fefilling and a trouble shooter. If all else fails they have tech support. I believe you have a HP. Willie, by now you have probably had the refilled cartridges sitting overnight. I would leave the bottom and top hole unplugged and let the whole thing stabilize before reinstalling back into the printer. Your print-heads reside in the printer itself and there is not much chance that the inkjet nozzles are going to plug up that quickly. Have you had any success with color cartridges? Have you done refilling before and if so is the ink from the same company and for a 600 series Epson? Just trying to get up to speed here and not trying to grill you in any way.....Debe, I have used Computer Friends at http://www.cfriends.com/ for many years, for inking supplies…..Larry

Hi Daisy, My understanding is that IRQ Number 7 is used and the typical default use: LPT1 (first parallel port).Other common uses: COM3 (third serial port), COM4 (fourth serial port), modems, sound cards, network, cards, tape accelerator cards. This IRQ is used on most systems to drive the first parallel port, normally for the use of a printer. These days many other devices use parallel ports, including external drives and scanners. If you are not using a printer or other device then IRQ7 can be used in a similar way to IRQ5: as an alternate for any of the devices that would normally be fighting over IRQ3 or IRQ4. Conflicts on IRQ7 are relatively unusual. One thing to watch out for if you are using two parallel ports is to make sure the second one is set up to use IRQ5 or another available IRQ. Some add-in parallel boards try to make LPT2 also use IRQ7, which generally won't work. Otherwise, avoiding using IRQ7 for an expansion card if you are using it for LPT1 will eliminate conflicts in most cases.

Evening Jill, I would concur that the possible problem is that the cartridge might have been installed with too much ink. Was it left out overnight with the bottom hole open? The most common problems with sponge filled cartridges are caused by TOO rapid filling. If the sponge is filled too quickly, ink will not chase out all of the air in the sponge. This will result in 'air dams' being formed inside the sponge. The common symptom of this problem is that the cartridge prints for a while and then stops, since the air dam has blocked the ink from flowing toward the print-head. A similar problem occurs when air bubbles form between the sponge and the print-head. The symptom here is that the cartridge has difficulty printing as soon as it is installed. For both problems, the key is to get rid of the air. For "splatter" it sounds like perhaps there might be too much ink and rather than being siphoned into the print heads, it is overflowing. Were the cartridges removed and reinked before running dry or had they been sitting?

I would recommend a flatbed also, but I have a Microtek parallel port scanner that works just fine. I have my HP printer plugged into it. My mother and a friend have SCSI scanners (Microtek & HP respectively) and I have seen no noticable slow performance. Set up is a breeze. Plug it in, load the driver - DONE. /??Question - I read somewhere that although a printer's port is assigned an IRQ the printer really doesn't use it therefore it is ok to use it for another device. Does anyone know any more about this?

Subject: SCSI and flatbed > Carol
User's IP Address: 207.104.120.134
March 24, 1998 (8:49 PM PDT)

Hi Carol, I would agree with Sharon and Ken about SCSI and recommend a flatbed scanner. It resembles a copy machine, in that the item being scanned rests on a glass plate while the scanning head moves underneath it. Flatbeds are versatile because they can scan flat originals of various sizes and even small three-dimensional objects. IMO, what really counts is how a particular unit measures up to the following: resolution, bit-depth, dynamic range, scanning method, scanning area and speed. These items determine why one scanner will work better than another. If your work will be printed through a professional printer, get the highest resolution scanner you can afford. (This means a 600dpi scanner.) If you will be printing on a laser or color printer, decide whether you will need to enlarge items frequently. Usually a 400dpi or 600dpi scanner is good choice, though a 300dpi scanner will work without breaking the bank. If you will be displaying images primarily on screen, a 300dpi scanner will give you all the resolution you need. FYI your PC system should meet all of the requirements listed by the scanner manufacturer. Generally, a Windows machine with at least a 486/33 processor, or a Macintosh with a 68030 processor. The amount of RAM installed is also important, because scanning and editing graphics is memory-intensive. Recommend at least 16Mb installed, and double that for true ease-of-use. Hope this helps. Larry

Willie....first...where did you purchase your reinking materials? When you let your cartridge sit for two hours after reinking, did you tape both top and bottom port holes, just one or none? Did you let it sit in a cup, a baggie, what??? How slowly did you deposit the ink? Did you check to see if ink was leaking from either hole before reinserting? You need to try running several, at least five to seven cleaning cycles after reinserting the cartridge. Having ink splatter is not a problem I've had. You must not insert a cartridge that is leaking. More details please.

Carol, look for a SCSI scanner by just about any manufacturer. Just about any $150 scanner will do more than you need it to now. I suggest SCSI because many of the newer computers are out of IRQ's to add anything new. If you don't know how to open your computer, or have a friend who does, have the store install it. You could settle for a parallel port scanner and would not have to open the case. But, IMHO, the SCSI is the best and fastest working solution.
