IMO light printing means that your print head is partially clogged or the OEM ink and new ink are foaming slightly (this will go away upon subsequent reinkings). I to have heard the foam (in your color cartridge ONLY, #HP 51649) has become more dense to perhaps cause more trouble in refilling but who really knows. Just take your time, add more ink (yellow) s-l-o-w-l-y and it should work. You are very correct in that the newer cartridges don't have a charge hole, but we are much to creative to allow that to stop US! (vbg) If yours does not, point the arrow toward you and on the top surface of the cartridge in the left rear corner, drill a 1/16 inch hole. (Now we will teach THEM a lesson), and go ahead and fill as you did the older type cartridge by adding about 40 ml of ink and finally seal the top corner hole air tight. I like using a hot glue gun. Make sure you SQUEEZE the cartridge some just before sealing to obtain the vacuum which will retain the ink until needed by the printhead. (No foam in this HP 51629A cartridge, remember). J Shepard (JS@home.ia) Subject: margins.Agin? User's IP Address: 206.72.13.90 May 29, 1998 (12:11 PM PDT) This is kinda margin question/problem. This refers to card production as that's most I've done with PM so far...all other projects - banners, posters, certificates have worked w/o a hitch. I've set my margin=0 in the ini as per the goldberg site, thank you Micheal....and got improved results w/ 1/4 fold cards ...albeit not still what I want, which is to be a WYSIWYG...as it relates to margins, that would be even spacing from the gutter as from the outside edge, on the left as well as the right, front, inside and back. But I'm not going there with this unless the answer to this takes care of that...confused ...me, too. My two oldest daughters have finally found some of their way and see their direction taking them into medicine -one at Walter Reed as an Army E-3 (so far) - the other qualified for nuring school at Mercy (hospital in Des Moines, IA). My wife and I wanted to say 'Way to Go!' with a card and a student fig#$%! from the Hallmark store (I make the card, but Hallmark still gets my money, Oh well). We have PMP and settled on a Printmaster/card (as opposed to a Platinum/card...an interesting way to create an upgrade, What?), this is a readymade, it's titled 'Life's Opportunities' in the gallery, file# CA1xx672.hcr. It's a 1/2 fold. When I fold it so there is equal 1/4 border around the front, that half is larger than the other. When I cut the border (which is the way the card is shown in the gallery), then part of the front is left in the back and the front is not balanced. Both ways the inside is not matched with front (& back). The inside has a 50 per cent screened (gradient) background that is shown bled off the borders with cut-out text. When printed the leading edge of this background is 1/2 inch off the border so that if I cut this background to bleed, then I have also cut 1/4 inch off the front right border. Help! Larry, a Watkins business (that my wife has ordered printed material from me produced w/ PM) is a home products business started in 1896 by JR Watkins who made his name with vanilla flavoring. Now they sell spices and other baking ingredients, cleaning supplies, knick knacks and other household goods (I can have my wife mail you a catalog...if you order more than $50 you get your shipping free and...Heh, heh ). They get their leads holding invited parties similiar to Tupperware. If you don't know what Tupperware is ask your wife or if no wife, a lady friend. Tell him Jill, Ellenor, Helga, someone? Thanks, J Hi Michael, I have had to answer this question several times, such that I wrote up a stock answer and simply attach it to an e-mail. Do you think it might make a good addition to TIPS? Here goes for your information: To saveguard all your project files, before you un-install PMP, do as follows: Click on MY COMPUTER. Click on C: drive. Click on the yellow PMW folder. Click on the yellow USER000 folder. Click on the yellow PROJECTS folder. You will now see all your project files. They end in SIG,(poster) NWS,(newsletter) CAR,(1/4 fold card) HCR,(half fold card) BAN, (Banner) and so on. Now we are going to open C:\TEMP as the directory (folder) to put all those files in. Click on C:\ drive. Note that there is a yellow folder TEMP. Now hold down the CNTRL key while you click on the first project file. The file name will become highlighted. Hold the CNTRL key and hold the mouse button. Drag the file name to the TEMP folder and release the mouse button there. That copies the first file to C:\TEMP. Do the same will all the other files. When finished, double click on the yellow TEMP folder and see if all the files are there. If not all, copy the missing ones. Now un-install PMP. Re-install PMP, preferrably in a different directory, like C:\PMW4P. When done, do the same manoeuver as above, but copy the files from C:\TEMP to C:\PMW4P\USER000\PROJECTS. When you open the newly installed PMP it should pick up all your projects. If not, click on OPEN FROM DISK and browse for C:\PMW4P\USER000\PROJECTS\ and import each project separately; then, when you see it is still intact, FILE and SAVE AS. Make sure to click each time on ADD PICTURES TO PROJECT. ------------------------------------------------------------- An alternate method is to use DOS to copy all the files back and forth. Click on START and DOS PROMPT. When you see the C:>WINDOWS prompt, type COPY C:\PMW\USER000\PROJECTS\*.*(leave a space here) C:\TEMP and press the ENTER key. That copies all the files to C:\TEMP. Type EXIT to bring you back to Windows. Now, after un-installing and re-installing in C:\PMW4P, click again on START and the DOS PROMPT. This time type COPY C:\TEMP\*.* (leave a space here) C:\PMW4P\USER000\PROJECTS and press the ENTER key. Now all the files are in place in the newly installed PMP. Do the same as explained above. Put a graphic in the upper left and lower right of a page, or top center, or full page and lightened it as a background.(used letterhead or poster) Made envelopes to match with the same graphic either on the back flap or somewhere between the return address and address areas. Also made some blank(inside) notecards with a nice border and her initial on the front. I put all this into a bright colored expandable folder along with a set of pens and a book of stamps. Some pages of the stationery were printed on parchment-like paper. Larry (R2D2) Subject: Epson 500>Linda User's IP Address: 207.104.120.60 May 31, 1998 (4:16 PM PDT) Hello linda, "your cartridge won't print anything" sounds common with reservoir type cartridges, (even new ones), such as your Epson 500. Usually this means the ink is not at the bottom (read: exit port) of the cartridge so there is no ink for the printhead to use. I suggest you take the cartridge, turn it upside down and inject ink through the EXIT hole. (The idea is that the air will rise to the top) Often times there is an air bubble between the bottom of the sponge at the exit port and the printhead, which blocks ink flow. Be sure that there is ink in the top of the printhead (inside the printer), and check that there is a very S-L-O-W drip from the EXIT hole of the cartridge, in this case. (This is to eliminate any air bubble between the printhead and the cartridge, OK?) You also might want to tap the side of the cartridge repeatedly for several minutes ("burping the baby"). As you probably know, the cleaning and nozzle check should be performed as a CYCLE so later cleanings will go to a more INTENSE cleaning cycle and repeated until it prints correctly. If you ran more than 6 cleaning cycles its still not printing correctly your printer may need servicing. I would say then your next step is to call Epson for a price on service (leaving out the fact you reink). Upon hearing the service price and shipping, you might want to consider a NEW printer as I don't believe the 500 series is still being made. Should the quote be worth it to you I would send it UPS Ground tracking. Local shops may be able to help you but if the prices are competitive the factory is the one with the latest upgrades and components IMO..Keep us posted as to your results...Larry Stuart Elflett (stuart_elflett@partsovernight.com.au) Subject: RE:> Pat -> Notepaper... Rusty Maurice (m@azstarnet.net) Subject: Scanning > Rusty User's IP Address: 169.197.55.22 May 07, 1998 (1:13 PM PDT) If you scan a full 8.5 by 11 page with photos at 300 DPI, you will end up with an enormous file, several MBs in size. It is better to scan each picture separately and correct and/or modify it, later save each picture under its own name. The resulting files will be smaller and they will easily fit on a floppy, in case you want to save them outside your hard disk. A huge file will not fit on a floppy, in case you scan a full page of pictures. But it is not always necessay to scan a color picture at 300 DPI. It is a waste of file space and the quality does not improve markedly. I have the best results with scanning color pictures at 150 DPI. The file format (extension) will also influence how many will fit on a floppy. The most compressed one are JPG and GIF (I prefer GIF because it does not influence the quality as much as JPG does) The next best one is PCX. File formats in BMP or TIF give good quality, but result in rather large files, as no compression is involved. Maurice. Give it a try....Eleanor Robin (rempson@btc-bci.com) Subject: Attn: Rodolpho - Printing Banners User's IP Address: 207.0.85.53 June 11, 1998 (12:03 PM PDT) Rodolpho - To print a banner with PM 4.0: Go into new projects - banner and make your banner. When you click on print, you can then specify the size you want your banner (ie; how many "sheets of paper long" - I ususally select 5 or 6), then click print. Your banner will print out on the amount of sheets you selected. The left side of each sheet has a dotted line, you need to cut each sheet at that line. Then match each sheet together, the left side of each sheet will overlap on the top of the sheet next to it. Tape together and you have your banner. They turn out pretty neat, try one! Any more questions, feel free to ask!! Good luck - Robin linda (same) Subject: OOPS! If you just type in the information you need once it will submit it to several 'people searcher' sites. It is much easier to search for a man (they don't change their names ), so you may have good luck. The less common the name the fewer people you will have to sort through. Unfortunately, it will NOT work if they don't have a phone or have an unlisted number. Good luck! The challenge? Can anyone print a readymade PM 1/4 or 1/2 fold card so that it looks like what is shown in gallery?...margins, gutter, front to inside to back alignment? Does anyone have any problems matching color printed with the color pictures shown, especially with a thre color cartridge printer like a HP 540? I get varying results ...sometimes its's perfect and then sometimes green grass comes out blue and the sky comes out purple. I'd especially like to hear from the gurus. Did anyone have Draw 5 before 6 and was there much change worth spending the time trying to find a Cosco in Iowa or an Office Max. (Mlcook2@aol.com) FYI-- if you register by modem, and registration is successful, then the fonts & graphics are automatically released from the CD, no code number needed. If you register by snail mail, print out the reg. form. On the bottom half of the paper, where your name and address are listed, you will see on the right, a number. Take the last four numbers, read them backwards. That will be the reg. code for your product. Please make sure you mail it in though, so that you are registered with the company. If you ever do need tech help, or to purchase products at an upgrade price, you need to make sure you are registered. Please, don't laugh about that last statement, ok? I had to put that in for CYA purposes. teddybear (at home again) Subject: bjc 7000 User's IP Address: 209.112.180.143 June 13, 1998 (6:45 PM PDT) Hi all just got back from town. The 5 beeps on a bjc 7000 means you have a cartridge that isn't seated (SP) properly. I had this same problem and called tech support and they told me how to fix it.I told them they should include 5 beeps in the manual so users would know what it means. I just reinserted my cartridges and it stopped the problem. Not to start a war or anything but I think the 7000 is the best. Frank I'm sorry you lost your projects. I lost mine too when it happened to me. I didn't have anything too important but it is still upsetting to lose all that work. I could tell that my black wasn't in all the way just by the way it sat. It clicked back into place and I repushed the blue button and closed the lid. That's it. I have the same printer, we bought it at Xmas.. You are going to kill me. We are still on the same cartridge. I do quite a lot of printing.. a couple of projects and a few text things basically each day. Yours does seem like maybe you got a dud with that cartridge. Probably can't happen ..BUT... oh .. I do have some good news though! I read in a magazine (tried it and it works perfectly!) that if you download the latest drivers from lexmark.com for the 7200 (yes 7200) .. you can then buy the photo cartridge which replaces the black and has black,lt magenta and lt cyan...and voila you have TRICKED it into being a 7200 instead of the 7000(which wont do the photo ink cartridge without those drivers!) It AMAZED me. I bet there are no other printers that one can trick into an upgrade just like that! I did this about 3 mths ago..and it is absolutely faultless. Try it.. photos come out with better halftones and look just magic! Good luck..
